AU Enters the Top List of Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)!---

The 2018 ARWU Report shows that AU for the first time enters the top-1000 list of best universities in the world (No. 888 globally, No. 14 in Asia and No. 5 of private universities in Taiwan).

The 2018 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) Report released on Aug. 15 shows that Asia University (AU) is in the top-1000 best school-running universities in the world. Specifically, a total of 15 schools in Taiwan are ranked to be within the top 1000; being evaluated for the first time, AU is No. 888 globally and No.14 in Taiwan. Additionally, AU is the 5th of all the private universities, and the 1st of the non-medical private universities, in Taiwan.

AU and CMU have the same founder, Prof. Chang-Hai Tsai. The Board of Directors of AU and that of CMU have approved unification of the two universities to form an academic alliance, called China Asia Associated University (CA2), which fosters excellence of school running of both universities in recent years. AU President Jing-Pha Tsai pointed out that the key factors of AU to enter the top ranking list are AU’s excellent performances in teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

AU aims, as said by President Tsai in addition, to become a world-renown international university, and provides a total of eight ways for students to promote their international visions, namely, studying abroad, participating in academic exchanges, working as interns, joining volunteer programs, publishing papers in conferences, and taking part in international invention or design contests.

In 2014 for the first time AU was evaluated by the Times Higher Education (THE) report as one of the youngest top-100 universities in the world. Since then, in the duration of the recent five years, AU has been evaluated as one of the “top-100 universities” in 12 different rankings announced by the THE reports. Specifically, in this year of 2018, AU has appeared in four THE lists of such top-100 universities, including (1) the list of top-100 “millennial universities” (universities younger than 100 years) in the world with AU being the 31th globally and the 1st in Taiwan; (2) the list of 50 young universities with AU being the 4th in Taiwan; (3) the list of top universities in the Emerging Economies in the world with AU being the 18th in Taiwan and the 5th of all the private universities; (4) in the list of the best universities in the Asia-Pacific Region with AU being the 15th in Taiwan, the 5th of all the private universities, and the 1st of the non-medical universities. “This is a great achievement because AU is the youngest university in Taiwan, only 17 years old,” said President Tsai.

About the list of the top universities mentioned above in the 2018 ARWU report within which AU appears, the dean of R&D of AU, Professor Chih-Yang Huang, said that the ranking is based on the achievements of the evaluated universities in several aspects, including teaching, research, internationalization, academic reputation, as well as the numbers of citations per paper and the number of SCI/SSCI papers published per faculty member. This ranking result of the ARWU shows that AU has good achievements in school running in the recent years.
