AU Teachers and Students Exhibit Their Fashion Design Works in Taichung-City Huludun Cultural Center---
A total of 25 innovative fashion artworks designed by AU teachers and students with various styles and titles are exhibited in the center.
亞洲大學(Asia University, Taiwan)The vice dean of the Creative Design College and the chair of the Fashion Design (FD) Department at Asia University (AU), Prof. Chin-Mei Lin, mentioned that a total of 25 pieces of flower-themed series fashion-design artworks, entitled “Flower Home-run,” “Amusement Logo,” “Wearing Flower-like Brocade,” etc., together with 50 other works designed by teachers and students from the FD Dept. will be exhibited in Taichung-City Huludun Cultural center, starting from Feb. 26. The artworks were created by Professor Chin-Mei Lin in cooperation with her students in the FD Dept. at AU. Prof. Lin mentioned that her series fashion-design artwork “Flower Home-run” is based on the concept of Chinese paper-cutting and the esthetics of the window patterns of traditional Chinese buildings. The art of Chinese paper-cutting is basically to cut a red paper by hand into a pretty open weblike pattern. Because the resulting cut-outs are often used to decorate doors and windows, they are sometimes referred to as window flowers or window paper-cuts. In addition, the work entitled “Amusement Logo” is designed by freely combining extended geometric lines, aiming to arouse people’s memory of the nature existing originally in city areas which now are full of boring modern buildings. As to the work “Wearing Flower-like Brocade,” the designers attempt to design clothes which are functional as well as aesthetically pleasing, amalgamating flowery cloths with embroidery. As mentioned by Prof. Lin, fashion design is the art of application of design aesthetics or natural beauty to clothes and accessories. A designer should consider who is likely to wear the garment to be designed and the situation in which it will be worn. He/she has a wide range and combinations of materials to work with and a wide range of color patterns and styles to choose from. “The AU teachers and students’ participation in the exhibition is a good chance for the students to design and show their works, and so gain more practical experience of creating innovative works before graduation,” said Prof. Lin.
